What gets withheld when you cash out in Mérida

Two taxes come off before you are paid: 6% under the Yucatán State Finance Law and 1% federal income tax under article 138 of the Income Tax Law, which sets that rate wherever the state tax does not exceed 6%. From a 1,000-peso prize you keep 930.

02Why people say they keep half

They mean promotional credit, not tax. Credit loaded by a loyalty promotion can be played but not withdrawn. Load 500 of your own, get 500 promotional, walk out without playing and you are handed back your 500 — half of what the screen showed.

03Getting paid without a cashier
